This research arises from the imbalance between the imperative to protect national interests and the demands of global market openness. It aims to examine the position of the principle of national interest as the foundational basis of Indonesian trade policy within the international legal framework. This study employs a normative juridical method using legislative and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate that national interests encompass economic, political, social, and security dimensions; however, their implementation continues to face challenges in achieving harmonization with World Trade Organization rules. This study concludes that strengthening the domestic legal framework and enhancing the synchronization of national and international regulations are essential to ensuring the effectiveness of Indonesian trade policy.
